Nelson has consistently been ranked as the number one small town arts community in Canada, by John Villani, who publishes The 100 Best Small Arts Towns in America. This honour is well deserved. The quality of their work has earned the artists of the area a tremendous international reputation.
In addition to the many local galleries, each summer Artwalk combines all manner of art into a walking tour of the downtown business area. From restaurants to retail outlets, the business community organizes a fabulous opportunity for locals and visitors alike to experience the magnificent art that this area inspires, to meet the artists, and enjoy music, food and drink in an atmosphere of relaxation and fun. Artwalk celebrated its ten year anniversary in 1998 and is must-see if you're visiting during the summer.
