Interior Health is responsible for health services in the Kootenay Boundary region. Services include Acute Care (at hospitals and health centers), Home and Community Care (including Residential Care and Home Support services), Mental Health, Population Health (focusing on wellness and prevention of illness and injury), and Public Health.

In the Kootenay Boundary Region, Interior Health provides service to 80,000 residents through 2,500 employees, and has an annual budget of $100-million.

Interior Health includes links and information on the services available, as well as links to outside organizations and partner agencies also involved in health care in the Nelson area.

Facilities in the region:

Nelson: Kootenay Lake Hospital: 24/7 emergency department, with inpatient and outpatient services including obstetrical care

Kaslo: Victorian Primary Health Centre: 24/7 emergency within an integrated Primary Health Care centre.

New Denver: Slocan Community Health Centre: 24/7 emergency within an integrated Primary Health Care centre

Castlegar: Community Health Centre: 12/7 emergency within a developing Primary Health Care centre

Trail: Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital: Full service, secondary-level Regional Hospital.

Residential (long-term) Care is provided at Jubilee Manor in Nelson, and at the new Mountain Lakes Seniors Community. Mountain Lakes is also the site of Nelson’s Assisted Living units.

Home Support and Case Management services are provided through our Home and Community Care services, located in every community in the region.
