Vilgel Japini IV was very strange for a Japini. He had seen every nook and cranny in Rain Inn before he was three years old and often wandered out alone. His parents told him not to go out of the gates of Rain Inn, or else he would end up in the hands of the Athruk Clan, who would certainly hand him over to the Sceels. The main enemy of all the clans except the Athruk Clan, who at first had been cowardly and weak. And had turned over to the dark side. The Sceels had taught them the arts of war. This time his curiosity got the better of him. I will tell you the strange story that followed.
The gate opened with a groan. Vilgel stepped out. He closed the gate with another groan. He cautiously took a step forward. He slipped and fell.
"Ouch!" he cried. He got up, took another step and fell.
"Ouch!" he cried again. It certainly was slippery outside the gates. He started to crawl off the ice that had caused him to slip. Then he got up, avoiding patches of ice. He accidentally stepped on another patch of ice and fell. Then suddenly, he started to slide. He slid and slid until he felt it would never end. Then suddenly, he bumped into something his head shot forward onto it and he remembered no more.
"Ahh," it said. "I was beginnin to think you was never going to wake up," it said. "You was hung over a rock on the big ice slide into Holly Creek, and you would be mighty sorry if you went down into there in the middle of the winter."
"Oh," said Vilgel, suddenly feeling guilty for not knowing about the ice slide. "What is your name?" said Vilgel.
"Ah, so you've finally asked," said the face. "My name is Pavmouth Gardibbi II."
Vilgel frowned. The Gardibbi clan wasn't the favorite of the Japinis.
"By the way. What is yours?"
"I am Vilgel Japini IV," said Vilgel proudly.
Now it was Pavmouth's turn to frown.
"Your clan and my clan have been quarreling for centuries. Get out of my sight!"
Vilgel had no choice but to obey. He got off the bed and stumbled out the door.
"This must be Holly Creek," he thought to himself.
Later on, the sun came up. Vilgel saw a Humberry bush and greedily ate every single one. As he travelled on, the ice in Holly Creek disappeared and Vilgel drank the cool water until he thought he would burst. Then he went on. Finally, he came to a gate. It had letters carved into it. Fifth Refuge it said. Vilgel tried to open it. It was locked. He decided to climb over it. The gate poked and scraped him. Drawing blood. He stumbled into the town. It was two minutes before he met anybody. The first person he met was named Sanvell. He looked a lot like Vilgel himself.
"Vilgel! My brother."
Vilgel stared.
(Way to leave us hanging, Erin!)
