Man! I'm a genius! I predicited 7 out of 8 correctly!! On March 20th! The awards were in June!!! Ahem, anyway, let's now look at my other predictions, about the Playoffs (made March 10th). Note: These start off with teams in the Quarter Finals.
For the West....
I said the Stanley Cup Finals will be Dallas vs Ottawa
As you know, the Finals were Buffalo vs Dallas, decided in 6, and Dallas won. So I predicted that correctly, but other then that... These wern't my best predictions.
June 20th -- Remember in an earlier Rant that I said sometime in these Playoffs a game-deciding goal would be called back because of the Crease rule? Well, that did happen a couple times, but the biggest controversy is over one the didn't call back. A very, very, very, very, very etc. important goal they didn't call back. I'm sure all of you saw the goal 20 times... in triple OT, Brett Hull scoring the winner... With his foot in the crease. Now, before I go on, let me tell you I have seen a goal almost exactly like the one Hull scored, and it was called back. Sure, the head of officials said
June 14th -- Over the past 6 months, Miroslav Satan has become a more recognized player. And now with Buffalo in the Finals, you hear his name a lot... And notice how his last name is SATAN? Sure the announcers pronounce it "Shuh-tan" or "Sha-tan", but no matter how you say it, it's still Satan. Now, my point is, I believe that he is, infact, the Devil. I mean, he's got the name, he looks like him (see below), and when I looked at his profile on ESPN, it was number "0666" (666 is the address of The Devil). See the link? http://espn.go.com/nhl/profiles/profile/0666.html
July 8th -- As I promised earlier it's time to review my bold predictions regarding both the NHL Awards (view that Rant here) and the Stanley Cup Playoffs (view that Rant here). Let's review the Award predictions first (made March 20th):
I said the Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) would go to Chris Drury (right)
I said the Norris Trophy (best Defenseman) would go toAl Macinnis (right)
I said the Art Ross Trophy (player with most points) would go to Jaromir Jagr (right)
I said the Rocket Richard (player with most goals) would go to Teemu Selanne (right)
I said the Vezina Trophy (best goalie) would go to Dominik Hasek (right. Notice a trend here?)
I said the Jack Adams (best coach) would go to Jacques Martin (right)
I said the Conn Smythe Trophy (best player in the playoffs) would go to Dominik Hasek (wrong, but if Buffalo had won the Cup, probably would've been right)
I said the MVP, the Hart Trophy would go to Jaromir Jagr (right)
In the West....
Dallas
Phoenix
Anaheim
Edmonton
And in the East...
Toronto
Pittsburgh
Ottawa
Buffalo
That's the teams that I said will be in the quarters. Out of those, Dallas, Toronto, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo were in the Quarter's. As for team's making it to the Semi's:
Dallas
Edmonton
And for the East....
Ottawa
Buffalo
Out of those, Dallas and Buffalo were in the Finals.
And that it will be decided in 6 games, and will go to: *The Dallas Stars*
"( Hull) had control of the puck, and it didn't matter that his skate was in the crease.
We determined that Hull played the puck, had possession of the puck and the goal was good.
His foot was in first. Our immediate reaction was that it didn't matter. Our view was that he had control. Hull was in possession and control of the puck."
That's all fine and dandy, mister head official, but why have I NEVER heard about this possession of the puck crap? I've watched a lot of games this past year, and I have never seen anything like that. One thing's for sure, the NHL is gonna do something abou tthat stupid crease rule. The bottom line, Buffalo got cheated out of a possible win and Lindy Ruff along with everybody cheering for the Sabres have one hell of a good reason to be mad.
Now, just imagine little horns, a 3-pronged pitchfork, and a goatee (which Miroslav is growing, actually). He would then be the picture of evil... THE DEVIL!!!!!
May 15th --- Here are some of the rules I would change if I was Commissioner Gary Bettman for a day: Take out the Red Line to allow long break-away passes; Change the rule about if a goalie shoots the puck out of play it's a penalty, so that if a Defenseman does the same it's a penalty too; Change the In the Crease rule to this: If a player is in the Crease and makes contact (even just touching) with the goalie, the goal is called back; Crack down on diving, I.E. call more penalty's for diving.
April 29th --- My quick thoughts on the Playoff's so far: It's too bad the Edmonton-Dallas series was over in 4 games, I think it was by far the best series...Fast paced, good hits, good chances & saves etc. The Colorado-San Jose series is another interesting one, I think by game 4-5 there could be some brawls and fisticuffs. I don't know how Ottawa got swept...I could see them losing to Buffalo, but not getting swept. If Colorado beats San Jose (I figure they will), then the Avs would play Detroit...Oh man, that would be a good series.
April 18th --- You can bet right now
that sometime in the upcoming Playoffs a game deciding
April 7th --- My nickname for Brian Marchment: "I'm big and could hit people cleanly or muscle them off the puck or just be a normal average defensman....But no, I think it would be better if I made a name for myself, yes, I see it now! 'The really cheap guy'! Allright! I'm gonna elbow and knee my way into history. Yes!"

Well now you know. If you want to tell me what you think please do so. E-Mail me.
What do you think? E-Mail me and let me know.
goal will be called back because of the In-The-Crease rule. Whether it's a meaningless 7-1 goal that could have made it 8-1,
or in overtime of game 7 in the Stanley Cup finals. It's just going to happen. And, chances are, the player in the Crease WON'T BE AFFECTING THE GOALIE OR THE PLAY!!!
The Crease rule has to go. If it's the only rule change made, IT MUST BE MADE.
It drives me crazy when in a close game, a goal is called back because a player had half an inch of his skate in the Crease.
Yes, I will look into my crystal ball and reveil who will win every big NHL trophy this year.
The Calder Trophy (rookie of the year): ~~~~~ Chris Drury....With Bill Mukalt close behind
Mar. 10th --- Here it is! My bold playoff predictions!

Dallas
Phoenix

Dallas
Edmonton
And for the East....

2 Canadian teams in the Semi's? Yes. But who will make it to the big dance??
The 1998-99 Stanley Cup will be decided in 6 games, and will go to: ***The Dallas Stars***
The critics are raving! Bob McBob of the 'Winlaw Weekly' says: "If you only read one least-favorite-players list, read this one!"
Eiskal & Sebert give it 2 thumbs, 8 fingers and 10 toes, up! Way up!
Without further ado, here we go!
#14 >>>>> Joe Thornton (forward, Boston)
#13 >>>>> Chris Chelios (defenseman, Chicago)
#12 >>>>> Keith Tkachuk (forward, Phoenix)
#11 >>>>> Owen Nolan (forward, San Jose)
#10 >>>>> Jeremy Roenick (forward, Phoenix)
#9 >>>>> Brett Hull (forward, Dallas)
#8 >>>>> Rich Pilon (defenseman, New York Islanders)
#7>>>>> Michael Peca (forward, Buffalo)
#6>>>>> Mike Modano (forward, Dallas)
#5 >>>>> Denny Lambert (forward, Nashville)
#4 >>>>> Don Cherry (he dosn't play anymore, he does 'Coach's Corner' on Hockey Night In Canada)
#3 >>>>> Mike Ricci (forward, San Jose)
#2 >>>>> Wayne Gretzky (forward, New York Rangers)
And now, the moment you've all been waiting for, #1!!!
Feb. 13th --- OK, I understand that Wayne Gretzky is a great player and there is an unwritten rule that you don't hit Wayne.
But when Bill Mukalt CLEANLY hit "The Great One" into the boards, he got called for boarding. Gretzky didn't have his back to Mukalt. Bill didn't charge him. And yet, he sat for 2.
My point is anyone can hit anyone if it's a clean hit, I don't care if it's Gretzky, Bourque, Domi or someone else.
Some people may not agree with me, but Kudos to Bill Mukalt.
Feb 8th --- What's the deal with those third uniforms? I mean, they're only used about 5 times a year, and usually they're quite ugly.
Why? Likely because of money. One more "authentic" piece of team merchandising.
Jan. 22nd --- I think there should be 3 minute penalties as well as the normal 2.
Then, if somebody elbowed someone else in the head, it would be 3 minutes; but if another player say, hooked someone else it would be the normal 2 minute minor.
