On April 1, 2005 I set off across Canada on my bicycle. Or at least I'd planned to cross Canada. These pages are an account of that trip, as told through travelogs I sent to friends. I hope you enjoy the ride!

Hope-Princeton (Upchuck Gultch)

Hey Kids,
Just a short note to let you all know that I have survived a battle with the Hope Princeton Highway. It was two days of grueling uphill climbing with a one day rest at Manning Park. I've not come out unscathed though.

Somewhere enroute I have picked up a nasty case of Beaver Fever, and have spent much of the last 24 hours running for the bushes to releive my intestines. They seem a little better this morning, but not a whole lot.

For anyone thinking, mad as such a thought would be, of following suit, forget it. The Hope Princeton is pure hell. And it is not reccomended for cycle travel, with or without a load, and with or without the Beaver Fever.

Nicest thing I can say is, this morning the sun finally showed up and I'm in Red-Neck Town being treated rather nicely.

I've had a change of plans. I was going to head north past Bert's Horse Motel to Merritt but, with my intestines in a howl, my sleeping bag zipper wrecked, and some business that needs tending in the Koots, I have decided to run the southern route. So, when this email is done, I will ride up the KVR through Links Lakes and Penticton, then make the crossing up through Myra and down into the Koots.

For those of you who have travelled with me before, going over the same ground may be a boring read, but maybe I'll have some fun I can write you all about. I do plan to continue my ride, just I'll be going east instead of north through Kamloops and Jasper.

Anyway, hope you're all well and I'll write you all from Penticton in a few days, if I survive it.
Will
