The Cat King
c. 2006 by Will Webster

he had the instincts of a lion king
hunting the scraggly brush around the house
he stalked the illusive field mouse
the squirrel and the jay
but his real quarry was the cat dish
by the screen door on the porch

there was ten thousand years of instinctual education
stirring in his tiny head
but he knew it was all in fun
and his real job
was keeping me company

Kat Says
c. 2002 by Will Webster

Kat says you're never coming back
he's cuddled up close to me like i'm his only friend
he's purring tales of the hunt into my ear
and clawing my leg with excitement

i am stroking his long calico coat
and scratching under his chin
i'm giving him noogies on top of his head
and massaging his big fat belly

Kat says you're never coming back
but we've both agreed,
it doesn't matter

Kat, he ate a lot of tuna!
